From building reclamation to Body building

Thank you for those who have subscribed and received our automatic updates from this blog by email . Please also subscribe to keep up with the latest news at Victory Outreach UK . We are continuing with our focus on one of our mens homes called Woodside lodge.

Health and fitness forms one of our main building blocks for a healthy lifestyle in all our homes. Last year we had to expand our occupancy at the home which in turn left the men without a gym area within the house .

The guys asked if they could turn an old garage at the top of the property into a gym area . Over the next weeks and months without any further requests they set about collecting reclaimed doors and windows to form a basic gym area . This is making the most out of what little resources we have and also being grateful and proud of achieving its completion . Next weeks blog will move onto the next project outside of the gym. Great effort and well done, however i believe this home deserves a new purpose built gym in a new building , more to follow on this thought in the next blog. Driving Test success

Woodside resident Wayne recently expressed his latest achievement of passing his driving test, as one of his life time goals. Well done Wayne you are a great example of what can be achieved when focussed and with a little belief in yourself. Wayne with his educational coach is now setting additional goals . Birds of prey prove therapeutic

Our regular access to the local bird of prey sanctuary, has provided a number of benefits for the women who have attended. Victory Outreach UK has endeavoured to use animals in the past ,to help therapeutically in the recovery process for people trying to rebuild their lives. Now we have access to a variety of birds of prey including owls . Also as part of their employment training a number of practical tasks have been set and completed , including some basic maintenance work at the centre.

Women in Rehab fighting back

The women and staff completed a four week course led by Chief instructor Alun Williams , from Total Body Defence . Every session was practical and touched on real life scenarios ,some of which were requested by the women from violent situations they had unfortunately experienced in their past. The training always began with a warm up on the pads and moved forwards into basic aspects of self defence and various scenarios . Role play also formed an important part of the training which was also very helpful for the women who had a great time . The tuition for our women was previously discussed due to their background with Alun, who came up with a tailored program that was perfect. I would highly recommend Alun for similar courses in the work place for both staff and anyone looking to develop practical protection skills . Biking in the Welsh Valleys

Wedding Bells ring in Rehab

A very special day in the lives of Neil and Nicola now Mr and Mrs Mosely , and also for Victory Outreach UK . Neil and Nicola both came through Victory Outreach UK ,where they developed a relationship after successfully graduating . They are now both staff members and are making a significant contribution to the life of our womens home .

Dining hall upgrade at the mens home

We have been working hard over the last three years to complete the huge task of upgrading many much needed areas of The Bush mens home . This has encompassed the external repainting of the whole building , new residents rooms (ongoing) and the dining area as pictured (Stage 1 complete) stage 2 kitchen next . Where possible this has enabled some of our residents in rehab who are competent to assist as part of their employment training . We still have a significant amount of work planned for 2017 and 2018, please visit our support page if you would like to contribute to the work of Victory Outreach Uk .
